Aug. 14: New mandatory training for federally funded researchers due by Oct. 1

Dear Colleagues,

Federal funding agencies now require researchers to take research security training both prior to proposal submission and on a rolling 12-month basis during the award performance period.

This requirement applies to all faculty, staff, and students who lead or work on federal and sub-federal awards. The need for research security training is required by the CHIPS and Science Act.

Beginning Oct. 1, principal investigators, co-principal investigators, and other key personnel will not be able to submit proposals to federal or sub-federal sponsors without having completed this training.

CSU has contracted with CITI Program to provide research security training that meets federal requirements. This training can be accessed at any time and takes approximately one hour to complete.

  • Access the one-hour training (please select “Research Security Training (Combined)” to ensure you take the correct training.
  • More information about the training and OVPR requirements.

Please take this training today to help us manage the fast-paced implementation of this requirement for the thousands of researchers here at CSU. You are required to complete this training by Oct. 1.

You will hear more about the training from Assistant Vice President for Research Integrity and Compliance Mark Hubbard in the coming days. In the meantime, please reach out to him or me with any questions.

I know that this is a busy month with a return to campus and preparing for classes, and this is the kind of activity that can feel hard to prioritize. I appreciate your efforts to find a few minutes to complete this training as soon as possible.

Thank you for all that you do to make CSU a world-class research institution.

Best,

Cass
